The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the University of Tripoli was established in 1972. During that period, it contributed to the localization of knowledge and the dissemination of scientific research. Its graduates contributed to conducting applied studies and working to find appropriate solutions to issues of development and the environment by working in many institutions in the public and private sectors in Libya.It is known that geography is one of the sciences that are linked to many other sciences, which gives the geographer a distinguished role in the field of planning, development and the environment through a comprehensive, evaluative and predictive vision of environmental and development issues.
The department is concerned with research and field studies that serve the community and works to develop all its fields and contribute to community service.
The department offers training courses in fields related to geography and its various techniques for the relevant authorities in order to rehabilitate and build their capabilities.
