The Department of Home Economics is considered one of the departments included in the College of Agriculture. It was established based on the great role played by the family, which is considered the first nucleus in Libyan society. It was opened in the year 1979 to join the total number of departments in the College of Agriculture. At the beginning of its establishment, it was a division affiliated with the Department of Agricultural Economics. The study began with only seven female students, then it became independent from the Department of Agricultural Economics in the academic year 1982 to become an independent department. Then the number of registered female students began to increase. It is an unparalleled department in colleges and universities in Libya, in which female students who hold a high school diploma join the scientific department or the specialized secondary school in science. The basic and duration of study in the department is four years, after which the graduate is awarded a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, specializing in home economics.
